Tipping in Korea: calculator and bill splitter

Short answer: tipping is not expected in Korea. The price is the price, and where a service charge applies it already appears on the bill. Use the splitter to share a bill and, if you like, to see how much less you pay than at home.

Do you tip in Korea?

No. Restaurants, cafes, bars, taxis, salons and tour desks do not expect a tip, and the card terminal has no tip line. Some staff may politely decline extra money. Good service is part of the price.

Where a service charge already exists

Hotels, and some hotel restaurants and fine-dining venues, add a 10% service charge that is shown on the bill. That charge is the service payment; nothing further is due. The hotel calculator shows how it combines with VAT.

Small gestures

For a private driver or a guide who has gone well beyond the job, a small thank-you is welcome but optional, and there is no standard amount. If you want to add something, enter it as an extra percentage above and the splitter includes it.

How the splitter works

Enter the bill and the number of people. The tool adds an optional extra tip, divides the total, and rounds each share up to the nearest 100 or 1,000 won so cash payments are simple. If you enter the tip rate you normally leave at home, you will also see how much of that you do not spend.

Frequently asked questions

Should I tip taxi drivers in Seoul?

No. Pay the meter fare. Drivers do not expect extra.

Is a service charge the same as a tip?

No. It is a fixed charge added by the business and shown on the bill. You do not add anything on top.

What about porters or hotel staff?

Not expected. If someone helps you with heavy luggage and you wish to thank them, a small amount is a personal choice.

Can I leave a tip on a card?

Card terminals in Korea normally have no tip option, which reflects the no-tipping norm.
